Pondering Mage

I’m vaguely interested in running a Mage game.  It wouldn’t focus on Consilium politics or petty feuds between different mages (which seems to be the “default” presentation of the game).  It would be a much more player focused, isolated jaunt into a strange world, and strange powers.  With scene resolution sensibilities.  If you’re in Madison and this sounds interesting, shoot me a line, and maybe we’ll set it up.

Are you thinking something like an Unknown Armies sort of setting? Urban magic and all that?

Not having played UA, I couldn’t tell you.

But instead of a city bloated with an extant Mage population (like Chicago or Boston), the characters would be the only Mages in town.

I had kind of a “noir psychic detectives” idea in mind, but there’s a couple different models that would readily support that.

EDIT: Of course, that’s a “reactive” setup.  There’s going to have to be more to it than that…

Having played plenty of Mage in the past, and now having bought and played Mortal Coil, I can report: Mortal Coil > Mage. Your post suggests that you want to go simmy, so the only thing is that you would need to get your players on board your setting’s bandwagon first.

I’m not approaching this from the point of a GNS agenda. I certainly like a whole ton of Exploration of System, and I’m pretty sure Mage can give me that in ways Mortal Coil never could.
