First Printing!

I set up my first printing of Awesome Adventures on Lulu today.  It’s being mailed to me, I’ll look it over, and if it’s Awesome, there will be more copies for people to buy.

You’ll have to enlighten me on how all that’s done, some time! I’m getting the feel for the design-playtest cycle, but things like art, layout, and publication are still a mystery to me.

Here’s how the pros do layout- they use a program called InDesign or something like it, which has a lot of really powerful layout tools.

However, I have InDesign, and can’t figure out how to use it. So I did all my layout in Open Office, manually putting in my page styles, arranging artwork on the page, adjusting font sizes, in what is probably a really cumbersome way. (I also did my table of contents and index by hand, looking through the document for important topics.) Famous game designers and layout artists will probably tear their hair out and scream at me when I tell them that.

For Warriors from the Mystic Mountain, I hope to use the best method of all- convince someone else with layout skills to do all that, and repay them suitably.

When I get the chance, I’ll talk more in-depth about some of this.

Also, the Publishing forum of the Forge is actually really helpful when you have a simple, straightforward question.
